Google search provide more information in special boxes when we search about people, places and things. These special boxes are known as knowledge panels. These are very helpful to quickly understand more about a particular subject in more depth. The information for these comes from the Knowledge Graph.

What’s a knowledge panel?

When a google search provide a special box on its right side while searching for a people, places and things then this box is known as knowledge panels. These include following information.
- Title and short summary of the topic
- A longer description of the subject
- A picture or pictures of the person, place or thing
- Key facts, such as when a notable figure was born or where something is located
- Links to social profiles and official websites
The knowledge panels also provide special information for a particular topic like:
- Songs from musical artists
- Upcoming episodes from TV shows
- Rosters of sports teams.
From where information come to Knowledge Graph
The Knowledge Graph was launched in 2012. It provides all the information to display in the knowledge panels. The Knowledge Graph has a collection of over 500 billion facts about five billion entities — people, places and things. The main sources of information are as follows.
- Wikipedia
- The web
- Licensing data for music, sports and TV
- Medical providers for health issues
- Special coding to indicate upcoming events
Mobile search provide multiple knowledge panels
In early days most of the searches were made on desktop. So originally the knowledge panels were designed for the desktop searches. But now a day the scene has been changed. There are sufficient mobile searches also. So these are multiple for mobile searches.
